ACTS 17:17

 

Q: The ESV reads “he reasoned.” This isn’t a word I’ve seen before to describe evangelism.

 What is meant in the translation? 

 

NRSV says “argued.” The word dialegomai (dialogue) appears many times in Acts. See 17:2, 18:4, 18:19.

 It can mean to dispute with others, to have a discussion with, or give a sermon with the people asking

questions.
