PAUL AND PRAYER: SCRIPTURES


Years ago I devised a semester Sunday school session on the subject of Paul and prayer. The course outline I gave to my co-teachers is shown below. It may prove helpful to you in your personal Bible studies or as a guide to group discussions on the subject.

1. Paul: a man of prayer (Acts 9:8-11, Acts 13:1-3, Acts 20:36-38; Acts 21:5, Acts 28:8)

2. Greetings (Romans 1:7b; I Cor 1:3, etc.)

3. Whom to pray for -- believers (Rom 15:5-6, 13, 33; Phil 1:9-11; Col 4:12; II Thess 3:5)

4. Blessings on believers (Eph 1:15-23; Eph 3:14-21; Col 1:9-14)

5. When to pray (Rom 1:9, Rom 12:12; Eph 5:18b-20, Eph 6:18-20; Col 4:2; I Thess 5:17-18;

7. How to pray with the proper attitude (I Cor 11:4-13, I Cor 14; Eph 3:14; I Tim 2:8)

8. Whom to pray for -- unbelievers and those who minister to them (Rom 1:9-15, Rom 10-11; Rom 15:30-31; Col 4:3-4; II Thess 3:1-3)

9. What to pray for -- removal of affliction (II Cor 1:3-7, II Cor 12:7-10)

10. Thanksgiving to God (I Cor 15:57; Eph 1:3-10; I Tim 1:12-17)

11. Thanksgiving for believers (Rom 1:8; I Cor 1:4-9; Phil 1:3-7; Col 1:3-6; I Thess 1:2-10: 2:13-14

     II Thess 1:3-4; 2:13-14; II Tim 1:3-7; Philemon 4-7)

12. Benediction (II Cor 13:14; Gal 6:16, 18; I Thess 5:23-25; II Thess 2:16-17, 3:16)
